pop up requirement

how do we click on anything within the reports, pass the parameters to another reports and also make the drill thru report open in a new page

See this page for information on Report Interactivity, including jumping to other Reports or Urls, http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345258(sql.90).aspx

If you need to have the report open in a new window, then you will need to use the Jump to Url method using javascript, like the following,

=void(window.open('" & Globals!ReportServerUrl & "?/ReportName&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=Html4.0&Parameter1=" & Fields!Field1.Value & "','_blank'))"

PolygonsCustomReportItem

Hi, Is it possible to modify the width of the Report item in the CRI? i.e:
public ChangeType Process()
{ this.m_CustomReportItem.Width = 0.5;
...
}
It doesn't seem to work, if anyone can help me.

In SSRS, I have not found any way to change the widge of the controls
dynamically. It appears that all of the controls have to have fixed
widths so the various Renderers known how to export them to .XLS, PDF,
etc.
I think you can only change the width of the ReportViewer object when
the ReportViewer is embedded in another application or web page, but
the objects in the Report RDL are fixed widths.

Polar Charting with Reporting Services

Does anyone know if you can do polar charting with Reporting Services? I have a need to report the polar coordinates of an element and show the polar chart of the data elements. If I can't do polar charting with Reporting Services, does anyone know of a third party product that I can utilize?

Thanks

Points to consider for Report Database.

Ok..ok, I'm trying to get some comment/ insight on what things to consider during developement of a
Reporting module with a Reporting Database. For those who had face problems, been doing something like this, maybe you like to share a tip or two.

Project:

Developing ASP/ ASP.NET applications through DNSless connection with either OLE or ADO drivers to a SQL Server Report Database. Users will login in the browser to view reports of their choice. Not using any OLAP cubes. It would simply be callling SPs and query the tables for data and displaying it in cuztomize HTML report formats. And of course with good indexing.

Project scope:

Enterprise/Factory scale -so to assume Reporting DB size easily over 50-70 GB.

QUESTIONS:

1. How many users can concurrently login to view reports? A rough estimate would be? Is there any unit of measurement to determine the number?

2. What are the best practices- in DB design and and on application development for this project case?

3. What are the hardware concerns/specs ( best/minimum recommendations)? Would network traffic play a role here?

Thanks in advance for sharing your comments. It depens on what kind of database is but anyway:

1. Quantity of users depends on database and application design (respond time, etc.)
2. Best way - to create datawarehouse
- denormalize tables (less joins)
- a lot of indexes
- access only by sp
- you could create a fake cubes (I did it - it works even better than MS cubes for my case)

3. Ask for more and get something better... ;)sql

Plzz help error failed to export crystal report

i ma trying to solve a problem for a couple of days and cannot get around it..I have installed the whole crystal report software on my development machine and have created a report.. and when i try to export it it gaves me failed to export error..if i try like html..it expots but for pdf and rtf it isn't..

on the other side i want to use this report in my vb application..for the time being since the crystal reports install all the files so i dont have to include runtime files for crystsal report to run with vb..i called the report and can export it in html but for pdf and other formats ..even i have enabled the enableexport button..it just doesnt do any thing..how ever when i try to do it manually..by code..pdf export it gives me the same error..failed to export..

i have reinstalled the whole things and this does not work can anyone plzz help meSearch for your solution here
http://support.businessobjects.com/

Plz Tell me what I did wrong...

I have a column in my crystal report(of VB.Net 2005),this column is a Balance where there's fo example '1000 C' or '1000D' in the page footer I want the sum of this column, since it's type is string because of the letters Cr and Db I created a formula, named SumBalance:

numberVar SumBalance;
SumBalance:=0;
whilereadingrecords;
if Right({StatOfAcc.Balance}, 1)="C" then
SumBalance=SumBalance-ToNumber(Left ({StatOfAcc.Balance},Length ({StatOfAcc.Balance})-2 ))
else
SumBalance= +ToNumber(Left ({StatOfAcc.Balance},Length ({StatOfAcc.Balance}) -2));

I had put this formula in the page footer it gave me False, and if I right click,
FormatObject,I find a tab Boolean, where did I specify that my formula is a boolean...Wher's my error...Plz Tell meI knew my wrong it's that I have to write
SumBalance := not SumBalance=

But this formula is not doing what I'm expecting to do,it give me the last Balance but I need the sum of all the line of the column Balance...|||You put the formula in the page footer, so it'll run once per page and it'll only work on the last record for the page.
If you move it to the detail section (where it should be to work on every record) you shouldn't reset SumBalance to 0 every time in the 2nd line, you should create a new formula for the page header to do this. You'll then need another formula for the page footer to display the balance.
Does a balance of 0 have either C or D after it?
Do you really want to subtract Credits and add Debits?
Your previous post said you had Cr or Db on the end of the balance, and this formula half says that too - you are checking the rightmost character for 'C' but then discarding the rightmost two characters to get the number.
And finally, what's the business logic in summing a balance field?

With regards,

mahender

mahender,

Have you tried

http://server/reportserver/reportdirectory/reportname.rdl

Take note that

- "reportserver"is a virtual directory named during the reporting services install, so your could be something different, the default from memory is reprotserver

- I am assuming you created the directory the report resides in some replace "reportdirectory"with this

- you can pass any parameters thru this method also

- this is url access into reporting services, you can also utlise the web services to access your reports

If this doesnt work check out what type of security the other system uses. What user is your web app connecting as and does this user have access

An error msg would also be helpful

Trying to take the result from a report on RS exported as XML via URLSyntax
Ex.
http://servername/ReportServer?/folder/reportName&customerName=customerName&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=XML
This example renders a XML-document, trying to use Microsoft.XMLHTTP, ASP to
get the data from server.
Sample:
-set xml=server.createObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP")
-xml.open "GET", XMLURL, false
-xml.send
-xml.responseText
No problems so far, the document is there.
Is there anyone out there who can tell me how to use XSLT serverside
together with above XML.
best regards
Kjell BrandesKjell,
You can assign XSLT using the Data Output tab (Data Transform field) on the
report properties.

Hope this helps.

Hi all,
I have a transcript report which has 2 groups and details of that groups and it is using multiple column. In this students marks will be showing. My problem is even though the student took one subject or five subject i have to show five records into the details section of the report. If the student took only one subject the remaining 4 will be blank and into my table there is only the same no. of data which student took for the concerned term of study. so that it will looks like blocks according to each Term of the study. Now i am getting this as unorganized that is if there is only 2 records means there will be 2 records into the details section... so the format will not coming as blocks for each group...
So pls help to solve this problem
Thanks in advanceCreate stored procedure getting number as input parameter
If the number is 5 then select all five columns
If it is 4, select 4 columns ,etc

MS team please help! I am running SRS SP1 (Version 8.00.878.00). I have a
report with this parameter in the Report Designer:
Name: DBName
Prompt: (blank)
Data Type: String
Allow Null Value: True
Allow blank Value: True
Available Values: Non-Queried (none)
Default Values: Non-Queried
value: dbname
I want to make this parameter hidden but expose it to the URL interface. So
I followed the SP1 instructions and published the report, then went to
Report Manager and checked the "Prompt User" checkbox then set the "Prompt
String" to blank.
This works fine. I can supply a parameter to the report via the URL, and the
user does not see the parameter to change its value.
However, then I add a second parameter to the report:
Name: Codes
Prompt: Codes:
Data Type: String
Allow Null Value: True
Allow blank Value: True
Available Values: Non-Queried (none)
Default Values: None
I deleted the report from the server in Report Manager, then published it
again from Visual Studio. I went back to Report Manager and again checked
the "Prompt User" and cleared the "Prompt String" for the parameter
"DBName". When I try to run the report and specify a value for the "DBName"
parameter on the URL I get the following error:
"A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to debug?
Line: 80
Error: Object Required"
When I debug the error in MS Script Editor, it takes me to the following
code:
// Update the state of a nullable parameter.
function UpdateParam(nullChkBox)
{
// If the null checkbox itself is not enabled, don't change the state
// of the parameter controls. The null check box is disabled when
// a data driven parameter has outstanding dependencies
if (nullChkBox.disabled)
return;
It is failing on the if statement which means that nullChkBox is not an
object!!
I then tried going through all of the possible combinations of Default
Values, Allowing Null, etc. in the Report Manager for the "Codes" parameter.
The behaviour was consistent: If I check the "Prompt User" checkbox for the
"Codes" parameter at all then the report bombs! The same thing happens if I
change the order of hidden and prompted parameters. This would suggest that
there is a bug in SP1 handling reports containing a mix of hidden and
prompted parameters!!
I have seen this same script error reported in this news group on a July 2
article "Subject: Passing parameters via URL...", but I did not see a
satisfactory answer in Brian Welcker's (MSFT) reply as to why this error
message is appearing. It seems to me like a serious flaw in SQL Reporting
Services. Can anyone from the MS team help me with this one? As is often the
case, our implementation absolutely depends on this working! We used to have this same problem. I believe it has to do with page breaks
and is a bug solved in service pack 1. Down load this as soon as possible.
There are several great improvements and fixes in SP!.

get the error if you actually specify a value for the Codes parameter?

Pls Help : "Unable To Connect to Sql Server ..." from Crystal 8.0

Hi All,
I am using Crystal Report 8.0 to create report on MSDE 2000 sp3a , but
when I try to make connection Natively :
More Data Source->MiCrosoft SQL Server-> [Dialog opens]
then I type the ServerName, UserID and Password.
System hangs for a while, then I get this error :
"Unable To Connect to Sql server MyServer"
BUT IF I create system DSN (ODBC) then create the report,
it works.
Why can't I create report Natively on MSDE ?
Thank you very much for any help,
Krist
I'm not very familiar with Crystal Reports. However, since you can make an
ODBC connection, you can test if you are able to make OLEDB connections by
creating a UDL file connection. If the UDL file connection fails, then the
issue may be specific to the OLEDB driver for sql server (you want to
attempt to reinstall MDAC if that is the case).
Also, please see the KB articles below (available at

Pls Help - no clues as to what field

I am running a report that is using a stored proc that has been changed. I
made the changes that I am aware of however there seems to be a field
somewhere in an expression that causes this error ... I cannot figure out how
to locate the field!
It doesnt tell me what expression or what field. The error occurs in report
preview and the text is this:
An error occurred during local report processing.
an unexpected error occurred in the report processing.
the expression referenced a non-existing field in the fields collection.Double check your SQL. If you have something that you have wrapped with a
function (ie. LTRIM(tbl.Field), this will not have a fields name. You
would need to do: LTRIM(tbl.Field) as FieldName
Hope that helps

I have verified that all the fields are coming back from the stored
procedure and exist in the fields collection so this is very strange.

I ran in to this same problem last week. I altered a stored proc and all of
a sudden I was getting this error, found that I had put an
ISNULL(tbl.FieldName, 0) and it came back to SQL Reports as an unknown
field. As soon as I made it ISNULL(tb.FIeldName,0) as 'CurrentValue' the
field was no longer a problem in SQL Reports.

outcome. I am combining 2 reports into one report. Each report seems to run
successfully one its own. When I put them together and run them ... I get
that error. The interesting part is that the 2 reports use the same stored
procedure however they return different result sets depending on the
parameter values sent. I have 2 separate datasets set up and 2 separate
tables set up to render the data so in theory this should work from what I
have read. I am wondering if I am running into an issue where it somehow
*thinks* a field is missing because it exists in one result set and not the
other? I am reworking this solution again ... step by step to see at what
point it fails. As of now I have each separate report working and I am about
to combiine them again. I will post again. Thanks for your help ... that is
still a possibility (the stored procs) and I will keep that in mind ... I
have to involve another group for that so I need to verifiy the point of
failure first.

no problem in stored procedure. it may be a reason that you wrongly copied
some expression from another report and it is difficult to point to the
expression where it occurs. There is no debugger for the expression code. if
you assemblie you can debug easily to find the syntax error in the code.

is rather complicated so it would be best to try it this way first before
trying to reinvent the wheel. I still suspect it has something to do with
the fact that I am calling the same stored proc twice somehow although like I
said ... the result sets are feeding two different data regions.

put them together and they dont ... I get the "expression referenced a
non-existing field in the fields collection" error message and report wont
run. Since both run separately I am not inclined to think it is stored proc.
Any more ideas?

PleaseMy orginal Post dissapeared

Hello,
I am new to CR and have a very interesting problem for my self. I am generating a report from Excel. Works very well except for one thing. The data consist of part numbers and there availability. here is an example of some of the part numbers "123456", "S8935" and "319525-11" The report display all of the part numbers that are "123456" but any part number with a letter or dash in it displays as a NULL value (blank) and does not group them either. Any help you could provide on this would be wonderful. Again keep in mind I am new to CR so I might need a little hand holding in your descriptions.

Thanks in advance
RobertIt sounds like you have the field setup as a number instead of as a string.|||Sorry...but how do I change that property of that field?|||How are you getting the data from Excel to the report?|||I am using Cyrstal Reports. I use the wizard to designate which fields I want to display and filter and group. It works fine except it will not group or display the actual part numbers that have the above mentioned criteria. It does have the associated data displayed with the blank or un grouped part numbers. Changing the field to a string makes total sense but I can not find a way to change the field properties to a string from a number.

thanks
For the reply

Robert|||is there someone that can help me? Maybe I can send the report to you with the excel file.

Please

Thanks Robert|||I tried to play around with Excel and Crystal and I could get all the Excel fields to display if they were all one type or the other (either all numbers or all strings). When I mixed them ( a few number and a few strings), it would only display the type that was at the top of the list. Maybe there's some way you can make all your data appear to Crystal as a string? Maybe it's a bug in Crystal Reports. Have you tried searching their website? Or searching www.google.com or another search engine?

Crystal's Website:
http://support.businessobjects.com/search/advsearch.asp

I'm sorry I'm not much help. Will you post the answer when you find it?|||I sure will post the answer when I find it. I do not want anyone to go through the same thing. I also noticed the same thing. If I sort differently it will change the format of the field to the first entry or first few to a string or number. I also noticed in the index the pane next to the preview window everything was decimaled. I was able to fix that but not get all the data. This is a huge bummer and I am not sure why this does this.

Thanks for your help

Robert

Please....tell me can it be done or not?

Can I set a URL in such a way that as soon as a report opens; it takes us to
a specified aspx page first?I'm not aware of any way to do this. What is it you are trying to
accomplish? Maybe there is some other way to do it.

If you want to integrate an existing webpage then look at URL integration.
If you want to go from some report to a web page of your choosing then you
can do a jump to URL and go anywhere you want. It does not have to be a
report.

PLEASE! count of groups

I have a report with one group level where I am hiding detail and only
showing group totals. This report is summarized/grouped by device (like a
system name) and I am trying to calc the total number of devices monitored
which would be equal to the number of groups I have on the report. I have
tried all the aggregate functions RowNumber(nothing) to count outer most
level, CountDistinct, RowCount, CountRows ... etc etc and nothing gives me
what I want. If I were to code it ... I would have some counter that every
time I created a group footer then I would add 1 to the counter. It seems
that this should be something simple (and maybe it is!) but the expression I
am grouping on is a system name (so cant use THAT like a sum). I would do it
at the database level but I am using a stored procedure so cant modify the
sql. I tried to create (add) a field (as you would a calculated field or
database field) but got some error about out of bounds for array or
something. This is driving me nuts! please help!!!I got it to work finally. Now the problem is that I want to display the
device count in a textbox at the end of the report and I get an error trying
to reference the field I just created in the table portion of the report. In
the table (called table1 in the report) I entered the following expression
in the textbox I named DeviceCount
=CountDistinct( Fields!Resource_Name.Value , "table1") which gives me a
count of the devices being monitored and reported on ... which is goodness.
However ... I need to display that value in the textbox at the bottom of
the report.
I enter the following expression and get an error
="Total number of devices monitored for this Client:" +
(ReportItems!DeviceCount.Value, "table1")

No problem referencing now using expression:
="Total number of devices monitored for this Client:" &
ReportItems!DeviceCount.Value
I would like to know if there is a way to reference it in the body of the
report without having to use the footer though. Thanks!

of the report?

The value expression for the textbox â'textbox7â' refers to the report item
â'DeviceCountâ'. Report item expressions can only refer to other report items
within the same grouping scope or a containing grouping scope.

to assigne a name to your group, then use that name in the countrows function.
Best of luck!
