Poor Performance in SQL Server 2000 Database with SP3a 8.00.760

Hello All,

In our production database we have 1 Millions number of records in the database. In one database server we have install Service Pack SP3a 8.00.818 version. Performance of the system seems to be good but performance is poor in another server we have installed Service Pack SP3a 8.00.760 version. Whether this problem is due to the version miss match.

Can any DBA can help in sorting this issue?

I'm moving this thread to the SQL Server Database Engine forum.|||

You have the security patch on your first server. Details can be found here

Point in time restore problems

I have some problems using point in time restore. I use SQL 2000 SP3a on a W2000 server. I use the full recovery option. I start the week with a full backup and every 3 hours I take a log backup.
If I use the ''Point in time restore'' option, at the end of the restore, my database is ALWAYS in ''Loading'' state even if I checked the ''Leave database operational''. I know that I can use the ''RESTORE DATABASE XXX with recovery'' to bring it in normal mode but if I use this command every logs are restored and the date and the hour that I put in the ''Point in time restore'' is useless. The other thing that bug me is even if you put something in ''Point in time restore'' option, SQL doesent seem to take care of and it restore simply every backup and logs that are checked in the list in the bottom of the ''Restore database'' screen.
I use ''Point in time restore'' a lot in the SQL 7.0 but it's the first time in SQL 2000. Something change ?Could it be that the 'point in time' that you were trying to restore upto,
is later than the time period covered by the last log you restored?
I don't use Enterprise Manager for restoring or backing up databases, so I
cannot comment on their usability aspects.

Pls Help : "Unable To Connect to Sql Server ..." from Crystal 8.0

Hi All,
I am using Crystal Report 8.0 to create report on MSDE 2000 sp3a , but
when I try to make connection Natively :
More Data Source->MiCrosoft SQL Server-> [Dialog opens]
then I type the ServerName, UserID and Password.
System hangs for a while, then I get this error :
"Unable To Connect to Sql server MyServer"
BUT IF I create system DSN (ODBC) then create the report,
it works.
Why can't I create report Natively on MSDE ?
Thank you very much for any help,
Krist
I'm not very familiar with Crystal Reports. However, since you can make an
ODBC connection, you can test if you are able to make OLEDB connections by
creating a UDL file connection. If the UDL file connection fails, then the
issue may be specific to the OLEDB driver for sql server (you want to
attempt to reinstall MDAC if that is the case).
