Point Lables for the Bar chart

Hi friends,

We are using SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services for our project. In one of our reports we are showing horizontal bar chart along with the values in front the bar. for eg Graph is Asset Class VS Percentage values. We have Equity , FI , Cash , Others as Asset Class along with percentage values. In graph we are displaying Equity first. When we excecute report I can see the percentage values for FI , cash , others but not for equity.

If I change the order and get equity last then I cant see the value of Others . In short the bar which is coming first is not showing value in front of it. So where I am making mistake ?

can any one help me out ?

regards

As you have already discovered, this is discussed in the following thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=208591&SiteID=1

Point labels on Pie chart

I have a pie chart and have tried every option I could find on the Data tab for the point labels. They bunch up all over the place. What am I missing?

Does Dundas do this better?

Jerry

What do you mean "they bunch up all over the place" ? Have you tried an exploded Pie chart?

Edit: Also, on the data tab, click edit on your value. On the point labels tab, you can change the position and font size of the labels.

|||

Yes I have tried exploded pie charts.

By bunch up I mean that the labels overlap one another and are completly un-readable. This happens particularily with the sections that are small pieces of the pie.

|||

Adam Tappis could let you know if Dundas handles it better. I know he uses it.

By the way, SQL 2008 will come packaged with Dundas technology.

|||

Have you made sure that the point labels are outside the Pie graph rather than inside it?

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156263.aspx

Also when I want to maximise space I choose the donut instead of pie

point labels on charts

How can I get the point labes on a chart to appear inside the bar.Data point labels have two modes:
* automatic (checkbox on the data point label tab) - this will move labels
around so that they don't overlap
* manual (uncheck auto and use the 9 little buttons below it to determine
the label position)

point labels bar charts

It looks to me like you can only place point labels outside of the chart when
using pie charts. Can someone verify this for me or let me know what I am
doing wrong? Chart type is column, delselected Auto and chose right but the
label is still in the middle of the column area.
Also, we would like to be able to control overlaping labels. I saw a
posting that this is not supported - is this true and will it be supported in
the next version?
Thanks! If you check "Auto" for the datapoint label position, then the labels should
never overlap (unless you have a stacked column/bar chart where it can still
happen).

charts. Point labels on the lines are overlapping point labels on the bars
as well as other lines. Auto is selected.

auto is selected, the line point labels overlap the bar point labels. When
auto is not selected, we don't get the arrow pointing to the line the label
is for. This is a problem for lines that are close to each other. Because
the labels can't appear outside of the chart, part of the text is chopped
off.
If we could set the line point labels to display outside of the graph, we
wouldn't have this problem. I guess I am asking to put this on the wish list.

do not overlap. But, the numbers are all strewn over the report so no human
being could possibly read it.
We should be able to tell some data values to move their point labels
automatically and set other values. Having the line point lables outside of
the chart would also solve our problem.

Point label position not where expected

I have a simple column chart with point labels. The values are displaying at a -90 angle. I want the values to display in the center of the column, but when I choose the center position, it is displaying at the top; half of the value is in the bar and the other half above. Why?

I believe it places the point label as close to the position as you have set and attempts to avoid running into any other rendered images on your report.

You may want to try scaling the chart so that there is more room for the label to fit. Does your chart seem "crampted"?

|||I don't think it is cramped. There is a main chart which takes up the majority of the page. Then there are three smaller charts lined up vertically off to the right. It is these charts that I'm trying to get the point labels lined up correctly. There are only three bars per chart. To me, it doesn't look like there should be a problem with getting the label centered. I even tried making one of these charts much larger, and it did not change the position at allSad

Point Label not displaying on a bar chart

I am using Reporting Services 2000.

I have one bar chart that has two values and one group. Everything works fine except when two values are returned, then the point label for the top bar never displays. Example

A (has 2 bars)

B (has 2 bars)

Only the top bar for A will not display the point label. I can change the sort order and make A appear first and then the top bar for B doesn't have the point label now. When I change the order of the values, the top bar that didn't have the label has one because it is second from the top, but the new top bar doesn't. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong. Thanks.

Try to turn on margins for the x-axis.

Plotting lines and data points on scatter chart

I'm trying to produce a chart that has both actual data values from a database and matching "line of best fit" plots on the one chart. I have 4 data series, 2 of the actual data values and 2 that represent the values for the "line of best fit". What I want to do is:

Plot the actual values just as data points (joining them with lines in meaningless) and

Plot the "line of best fit" values as a line.

When I edit the data series on the scatter chart, I can see the "Plot data as line" option but it is "greyed" out.

Have I missed something really simple here or is this not possible. I'm using RS2005

Many thanks

plot data as line option

I have a bar chart that compares data across two dates. These dates are
passed in as parameters. Currently these are displayed as bars but i'd like
the first to be shown as a line. The query groups by date.I assume you have two data series in the chart. Right-click on the chart to
open the chart properties dialog. In the chart properties dialog box, click
the Data tab. In the Values list, click the one data series you want to show
as line, and then click Edit. In the Edit Chart Value dialog box, click the
Appearance tab. Click to select the "Plot data as line" check box.

At the moment i have a single data series: date derived from a group by date
in the query. How would i go about created two data series one for each date?

Plot data as line (is disabled on <Edit Chart Value> dialog)

I have a requirement to plot a line on the Area chart, and am wondering if
Reporting Services even allows us to do that ?
Right now, I am plotting the data using marker (X) however, it does not give
me adequate information of where does this particular Customer record fall on
an Area chart that has Lower Quartiles, Median and Upper Quartiles
(represented by filled area).
Thanks, in advance. Please read this thread, which describes how to combine Area & Line chart:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.sqlserver.reportingsvcs&mid=fc74b95f-3746-4ac8-bbda-cebc857dc8f7&sloc=en-us
There is also an alternative approach for achieving this type of chart. A
sample is posted in this thread:

Plot data as line

Why do I still have checkbox for Chart | Properties | .. <Plot data as line>
still DISABLED, even after applying SP1 ?
I however, see a button <Series Style> (which is right underneath the above
mentioned checkbox) now enabled after application of SP1. I must say that by
having <Series Style> I have gained a good control on applying color and
fonts..!
Thanks.Plot data as line only works for certain chart types. What type are you
trying to use?
